Requirements for Verifying PAN using PAN Number

The first point to start with before initiating for verification process of PAN Number is that foremost one must check that the card holder’s card must compulsorily contain 10 character long alphanumerical PAN – Permanent Account Number, specifically consisting of first five characters as alphabet followed by four numeric digits and last character should be an alphabet.

Procedure for verification of PAN by PAN Number

PAN can be known online by visiting the mentioned link and filling out the mandatary details. For verification, individual can simply fill in his PAN Number, followed by entering the correct Captcha Code as mentioned or displayed in the provided image on the screen.

And when the PAN holder click on Submit button, he is provided with all details of PAN Data including First Name, Middle Name, Surname, Father’s Name and Date of Birth, along with details of his Assessing Officer according to jurisdiction (ITO) on the computer screen.

In order to improve PAN and services related to it, the Income Tax department has authorized UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited (UTIITSL) and National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) to set up and manage PAN Service Centers in all cities or towns where there is an Income Tax office. Both provide PAN related services.

These two PAN Service providers verify the documents submitted, digitize the PAN application form and upload the data on the Server of the Income Tax Department, which allots the PAN. Once a PAN is allotted, the PAN Service provider prints the PAN Card and sends it through post/courier at the address mentioned in the PAN application form.

UTIITSL and NSDL are having PAN Service Centers and TIN Facilitation Centers at various places in all major cities of India. Complete list of these centers, along with their address, phone numbers and other related details can be obtained from the website of the Income Tax Department (http://www.incometaxindia.gov.in)

As already mentioned, one can verify the details of PAN Card holder by just filling the PAN Number and necessary captcha. In case of a lost PAN Card Data, details of the Card holder may be found this way.

The details printed on PAN Card at times might be different from the actual data in database of Income Tax Department as Income Tax Department provides a provision to allow individual to optionally have different name on PAN Card and therefore, even PAN Card holder may not be knowing about perfect details of his PAN Card as per Income Tax Department Data base.

The verification and removal of the defects can be done by the applicant online and offline too. From the above mentioned link download the letter and send the RETURN SLIP. In the RETURN SLIP select the suitable choices/options by ticking. The applicant is supposed to make his/her signature at the address given here-in-after.

But in case if any applicant opt for any correction as per ITD data base, he/she will have to send copies of all respective valid IDS with his/her Return Slip. The Return Slip and the valid ID’s should match exactly with the required data in the database otherwise the request will not be granted.

If the Name, Father’s name, Address and DOB filled in the application for correction in the pan card is / are a mismatch with the respective ID proof, then it will be treated as a defective application. Name mentioned should exactly (100%) match with the valid ID proof without any difference even of a single alphabet or even gap between two words of the name.

If Ration Card (without photo) / Other Documents are sent by applicant for the pan card purpose with application and if these are not valid Photo ID proof, applicant should provide some other valid Photo ID proof to the TIN-FC or service provider even later on. If there is any case of problem in Id and the applicant just want a reprint of his/her Id, he/she will have to select option A. After selecting it he/she will have to just sign it and send it by registered post without enclosing any document at the following address :-

Reprint PAN Card

In case if any applicant wants to do changes in his Application form of Pan Card, wants to reprint his Pan Card, wants to do inquiry of Transaction Status, wants to keep a check on Status Track for PAN application or wants to generate a new Pan card, then in this case he is issued with an application form for changes and for verification of data online as well as offline.

NSDL also provides forms for new Pan Card. For applying for new one it is necessary that the applicant has never applied for a Pan card and it has never be allotted to him/her. For checking the allotment the applicant can visit Income Tax Department (ITD) and can check whether a PAN has been allotted to him or not.

For reprint of PAN card, in order to fill the form the applicant must not mark on any check boxes by his own, box for item no. 7 will be marked by default and will be updated in ITD records.

For changes or correction in PAN the records in IDT are updated by filling the application form for this valid IDs are required, this application can be filled only when PAN has already been allotted. For tracking status for PAN application the 15 digit unique acknowledgement number is required.

After replying for the defect memo by sending RETURN SLIP with it the applicant needs to send copies of all respective valid IDs which should match with the data entered. The slip should be sent after marking and selecting all options along with signature at address block. In case if a person has not received his RETURN SLIP, then he need to download it from the Mail Box.

But in case if the applicant again opt for any correction as per ITD data base, he/she will have to send copies of all respective valid IDs with your Return Slip which should match exactly with the required data.
