Requirements for Verifying PAN using PAN Number
The first point to start with before initiating for verification process of PAN Number is that foremost one must check that the card holder’s card must compulsorily contain 10 characters long alphanumerical PAN – Permanent Account Number, specifically consisting of first five characters as alphabet followed by four numeric digits and last character should be an alphabet.
All the alphabets must necessarily be in capital letters. For example – ABIMM8737K. For verification of PAN, the Income Tax Department of India has a facility available on the website of the Income Tax department.
Procedure for verification of PAN by PAN Number
PAN can be known online by visiting the mentioned link and filling out the mandatory details. For verification, an individual can simply fill in his PAN Number, followed by entering the correct Captcha Code as mentioned or displayed in the provided image on the screen.
And when the PAN holder clicks on Submit button, he is provided with all details of PAN Data including First Name, Middle Name, Surname, Father’s Name and Date of Birth, along with details of his Assessing Officer according to jurisdiction (ITO) on the computer screen.
Verification of PAN Details and ITO by PAN Number
In order to improve PAN and services related to it, the Income Tax department has authorized UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited (UTIITSL) and National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) to set up and manage PAN Service Centers in all cities or towns where there is an Income Tax office. Both provide PAN related services.
These two PAN Service providers verify the documents submitted, digitize the PAN application form and upload the data on the Server of the Income Tax Department, which allows the PAN. Once a PAN is allotted, the PAN Service provider prints the PAN Card and sends it through post/courier at the address mentioned in the PAN application form.
UTIITSL and NSDL are having PAN Service Centers and TIN Facilitation Centers at various places in all major cities of India. Complete list of these centres, along with their address, phone numbers and other related details can be obtained from the website of the Income Tax Department (http://www.incometaxindia.gov.in)
As already mentioned, one can verify the details of PAN Cardholder by just filling the PAN Number and necessary captcha. In case of a lost PAN Card Data, details of the Cardholder may be found this way.
The details printed on PAN Card at times might be different from the actual data in the database of the Income Tax Department as Income Tax Department provides a provision to allow individual to optionally have different name on PAN Card and therefore, even PAN Cardholder may not be knowing about perfect details of his PAN Card as per Income Tax Department Database.
ITO details can be easily checked along with other details of PAN Card when PAN is entered for verification or when we try to access the ‘Know your PAN’ option provided on the Directorate of Income Tax website.
